New Trip, Same tricks. Welcome to Santiago

Updated: Dec 29, 2019

It's been a while since I've been out of the country.

Iceland being my last foray abroad-it was time I left the States again.

Except this time, I am both more prepared and woefully unprepared.

This time I've had hostels and airbnbs lined up and my car ready since you know....well further than a week back.

And yet I arrived and immediately it was like....well we're struggling.

Also this time, I forgot to mention, I'm joined on my trip by Katelyn!

We're off to see the Solar Eclipse on July 2nd. Since I saw the Great American Eclipse of 2017, I've wanted to see another. And I didn't feel like waiting until 2024 to see another!

Except, unlike the Great American Eclipse where Jay and I planned our trip a YEAR in advance, I didn't even really know about this one until....let's be nice and say 3 months out? I think I put my request for days off work in....early March.

At least I find myself here in Santiago with a dear friend who is willing to look just as panicked as I do when the locals are spitting rapid fire spanish at us.

And I even practiced with Duolingo! Thank god I did though because otherwise I wouldn't even get 1 out of 20 words.

It's an adventure to be sure.

Also, like my Iceland trip, it's fricking cold. In Santiago, it is around 45F. I left Georgia with 90+F.

Surprisingly I'm doing okay especially since I packed light on clothes so I could carry more of my camera equipment. We'll see though as night falls.

And last but not least.....

an airport story.

As I arrived at the airport to board my 10:30pm flight, an employee at the front of the security line (where you first enter) tells me that "John Cena is right there." And she points vaguely towards the line.

Now, you all know me as internet savvy and hip to most memes so, I immediately thought she was doing though, "Ha ha, John Cena is invisible he's not actually here".

So I laugh and let her know I'm aware of the meme.

However, now she looks confused.

"No, he's really here. He just went through."

Was John Cena really waiting in-line at security the same time I was? I never saw him, so I'll never know, but I will tell you this.

This woman did not seem familiar with the idea of memes.

I don't know what will make the story better--that he really was there and I just never saw him, or I was successfully had.
