I woke in a pitch black darkness, my heart racing. Dreams quickly faded from my mind, only leaving an impression of confusing images which would, in turn, leave me with only a restless night of sleep. I looked towards the clock on my dresser. 3 am. I close my eyes. The process repeats, 4 am 4:30, 5, and eventually 5:25 am. I laid awake, eyes drifting around my room as they accustomed themselves to the lack of light.
And then my alarm went off at 5:30 am.
So I kept tossing and turning last night which is to be expected. Or well, not tossing and turning. I just woke up frequently. And every time it'd be "AAAHHH EMILY IS IT TIME TO GET UP????? AHHHH" And of course, it usually wasn't. Lack of sleep though doesn't bother me when I'm traveling cause I can just snooze on the plane. Or the airport if I have enough down-time.
So I eventually found myself actually getting up. And you know, I didn't struggle that much getting out the door. Hooray!
And bonus, my roommate was nice enough to take me to the airport!! (I don't know how cool she is with me sharing her name online, but Thanks roomie! You're the best. :) )
And you might have been wondering why I labeled this as Day 0, right? Well, I'm not getting to Reykjavik until tomorrow. I'll be chilling in the Denver airport until my flight.
And I have to brag. I only have two carry-on bags. We'll see if I've made a terrible mistake but we'll see. So yeah, here's my little nest while I wait around.
But, here's some interesting things I saw while at Harts-field Jackson and the Denver airport.
A girl (I'm guessing 20s actully) wearing a flannel one-piece pajama suit, complete with button-up butt flap. Sweats I get, pjs are already a bit dicey but THAT kind? Yeah.
I overheard a guy who frequently jumps out of planes say he gets nervous during landings.
2 cowboys getting their boots shined. Like cowboy hats and everything.
A row of camo....hunters I guess? Camo overalls.
Several people today have giggled at my "fuzzy" boots.
One was a TSA agent who just seemed utterly delighted with them. The other was an elderly gentleman and his wife who quipped "Must not be cold in those!" Like, it's one of those things that typed may sound like they're making fun of me, but ultimately their tone was just pure amusement so it's hard to take personally.
I also saw a therapy dog! Like....for public use.
Her name is Martha! Her handler even had a business card for her. They're employed by the airport to just....help stressed out travelers. I def got pets in.
Here's also a picture of another employee petting her. What I didn't get a pic of was how I noticed the scene. It started with me doing my own thing, when out of the corner of my eye I see this fluorescent yellow shape drop to the ground. The guy had dropped to his knees when he saw her. Poor guy. Glad Martha was there to help!
I was also referenced in some ladies phone conversation. They were talking about cameras, and turns out her husband also has a canon. I tuned in at "camera" and then heard, "Yeah, she's got a much nicer one than your father."
I made eye contact and did that awkward smile wave. Cause, I was a little eavesdropping, but they were a little bit talking about me.
And that's been it so far. I've been alternating between standing, stretching, sitting, and walking around. I'll add another lap before I have to sit on a plane for ~8 hours.
Flight will be soon! Not sure if I'll add anything, but you'll certainly not hear from me until I land.
